Post Office Hours to Be Extended
Dozens of post offices throughout the Southland will open on Saturdays, effective this Saturday, and extend their weekday hours.
Postal spokeswoman Terri Bouffiou said the Van Nuys District of the U.S. Postal Service decided to extend the hours of more than half its post offices to improve service in bedroom communities.
Fifty-five post offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and most will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Some offices will have slightly different Saturday hours.
The 55 facilities are in communities in the San Fernando Valley, western San Gabriel Valley, Ventura, San Luis Obispo and the high desert.
Bouffiou said post offices that are already opening before 8:30 a.m. or closing after 5:30 p.m. will keep the longer hours.
She did not know the cost of the extended hours to the Postal Service.
She recommended that residents call their local post offices to see if they are among those extending their hours.
