Charles (Chuck) Mosey; Former News Editor at The Times
Charles (Chuck) Mosey, who retired three years ago as executive news editor of The Times’ Late Final Edition, has died. He was 67.
Mosey, who lived in Palm Desert during his retirement, died Tuesday of leukemia at the Kenneth J. Norris Jr. Cancer Hospital at USC Medical Center, said one of his sisters, Ann Grapperhaus.
Born July 27, 1925, in Reinbeck, Iowa, Mosey studied journalism at the University of Iowa. He began his career on the Peoria (Ill.) Journal, and moved to the Milwaukee Journal.
He later worked as an editor for the New York Post and for the New York Times in New York and in its Paris offices.
Mosey was a news editor at the Los Angeles Times for about 30 years, most notably spearheading the afternoon Late Final Edition (discontinued in 1991), which colleagues fondly dubbed “the Mosey.” His major avocation was collecting bronze sculptures.
Mosey is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Grapperhaus of Rancho Palos Verdes and Jean Goodenow of Denver, and several nieces and nephews. There will be no services.
