EARLY WARNING: Tom McClintock says he told us so. In the Assembly, the Thousand Oaks Republican was the hardest of hard-liners against taxes and spending. But now that the anti-tax movement is gaining steam across Ventura County (B1), McClintock is sidetracked, having lost a race for Congress last year. “I tried in vain to warn that this trend was getting out of control,” he said. Though McClintock now heads a taxpayer group in Sacramento, Ventura County tax issues are of more than passing concern. He still owns a house here.
