You may think you’ve never heard of the Sherman Brothers, but one of their songs you must know: “It’s a Small World (After All),” the most popular Walt Disney song ever. And it’s hardly the only number on this 26-track, 67-minute CD that’s likely to ring a bell.

Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman created many of Disney’s most memorable tunes and soundtracks. Included here are selections from “Mary Poppins” (“Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “A Spoonful of Sugar” and Walt’s own favorite, “Feed the Birds (Tuppence a Bag)”); “The Jungle Book” (“I Wan’na Be Like You”), “The Happiest Millionaire” (“Are We Dancing?”), “The Parent Trap” (“Let’s Get Together”), “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” (“The Age of Not Believing” and “The Beautiful Briny”) and the “Winnie the Pooh” movies (“Heffalumps and Woozles” and “Winnie the Pooh”) as well as the title track from “The Aristocats.”

This CD, a compilation that includes soundtrack material, outtakes and performances by the brothers themselves, is for anyone who appreciates clever lyrics and catchy tunes. Disney buffs should especially appreciate such touches as the Annette Funicello single “Tall Paul” (not just the final version but a work session too); there’s even a track of Walt singing with the Shermans.

You’ll also find other songs from the Disney theme parks, not just “It’s a Small World” but “Makin’ Memories” and “Magic Journeys” from the EPCOT Center and “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” from Disneyland’s now-defunct “Carousel of Progress” exhibit. This 1992 release marks the first time that all the Academy-Award winning team’s most notable songs from 1958 to 1971 have been collected in one place. And the liner notes include all the lyrics, in case you’ve ever wondered about “That Darn Cat” or “The Monkey’s Uncle.”
