Nation IN BRIEF : ILLINOIS : History Will Be Kinder, Bush Says

Former President Bush said in Chicago that history would remember his successes as President. “It takes years to take the full measure of any presidency, and that’s all right with me, because I am very quietly confident that history will be a kinder and gentler judge than the jury of 1992,” Bush said in a speech to the National Restaurant Assn. He said he was not bitter and would not cast himself in the role of Congress-basher. But he blamed the media and Congress for his ouster. He avoided any criticism of President Clinton. He also said he was proud of his Administration’s work on the environment, education and drugs.
