Lopez Sues GM Over Stolen-Documents Accusation: A former General Motors executive who defected to Volkswagen is suing the U.S. car maker for libel over accusations that he stole GM documents, Volkswagen said. General Motors Corp. said last week that it filed a criminal complaint in Germany against Jose Ignacio Lopez de Arriortua, the company’s former purchasing chief. Volkswagen said the charges were not true. The New York Times reported that Lopez requested copies of all reports and written material from top-level GM strategy meetings he attended in Europe a week before he quit to join VW. GM officials said the documents include how much GM paid for parts and materials, their specifications and long-range schedules for introduction of new models in Europe, according to the Times.
