COSTA MESA : Tourney Nets $55,000 for Student Center

More than 100 golfers helped raised $55,000 recently for the renovation of Orange Coast College’s Student Center.

The golf tourney, which was held May 17 at the Cypress Golf Club, was sponsored by Presto Foodservice Products, which is headquartered in the City of Industry.

Proceeds will be used to help pay for renovation of the center’s instructional kitchens.

“Our goal was to raise $50,000 for the OCC Student Center project, and we exceeded that goal,” said Ed Gibbons, vice president of marketing and sales for Presto’s food service division. “This was a very successful event.”

The 40-year-old center is currently undergoing a $45-million renovation. All of the funds were raised by Orange Coast College students.

The money from the golf tournament will benefit students in the culinary arts program, who will be able to use the kitchen facilities.

The program, which was established nine years ago with fewer than 20 students, today boasts nearly 200 majors.

“OCC does a wonderful job of preparing students for food industry careers,” Gibbons said.

The Student Center is expected to reopen in August.
