Share

Lollipop Lodge, a private, nonprofit facility that provides day care to mildly ill children so that their parents may go to work, has received two grants totaling $13,000.

This month, the lodge received a $10,000 grant from the George Hoag Family Foundation of Los Angeles. In April, it received a Disneyland Community Service Award of $3,000.

Executive Director Penne Bembinster said the money will be used for operations and to extend nursing hours. Currently, a pediatric nurse is at the center from 7 to 8 a.m. to screen the youngsters.

The care center can accommodate 12 children from 3 months old to 12 years of age. Children may stay at the center with fevers up to 103 degrees if they are not contagious. Youthful clients typically have viruses, asthma and ear problems or are recovering from minor operations. The fee is $25 a day.

The Soroptimist Club of Garden Grove, which founded Lollipop Lodge in 1991, has received an international Soroptimist award for sponsoring the lodge as a health project.
