OJAI : Surprise Event Awaits Graduating Seniors

Share

Nordhoff High School seniors don’t know where they’re going after graduation.

No, they’re not lost or unfocused. It’s just that their parents have arranged a trip to an unknown destination, sort of like a metaphor for graduates heading off into the world.

“We’re calling it the ‘Magical Mystery Tour,’ ” said Dorothy Johnson, an organizer of the event and mother of a senior.

Parents polled the 180 seniors, giving them choices like Disneyland, a night at a health spa and a harbor cruise. The idea is to make graduation parties safe, Johnson said.

“Who knows what kids will be out doing after graduation?” she said. “We want to know where they are, but we had to make it interesting and alluring enough so the kids want to do it.”

Seniors have been raising money all year for the graduation-day event on June 18, Johnson said. On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., they’re sponsoring “the only swap meet this year in the Ojai Valley,” Johnson said.

The swap meet is being held at the school’s stadium, 1401 Maricopa Highway in Ojai. Entry fee is $1. For further information, call 646-8882.
