Share

Thousand Oaks residents can clear out the cobwebs from the garage or basement by bringing unwanted appliances, furniture and assorted junk to the eighth annual Community Clean-up and Recycling Day on Saturday.

The free one-day event has been relocated from the three high schools to Conejo Creek Park South to accommodate more cars and items, officials said. About 1,200 vehicles and 300 tons of material are expected to arrive from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., officials said.

In addition to furniture and appliances, items that will be accepted include residential yard trimmings, scrap metal, tires and clothes, officials said. No commercial trash or hazardous materials will be taken, officials said.

Goodwill Industries also will be on hand to accept donations of usable goods such as clothing, shoes, toys, books and small appliances. Participants should keep donations separate from trash, officials said.

The cleanup is provided as part of the city’s recycling plan aimed at reducing the amount of trash sent to landfills 25% by 1995 and 50% by 2000, officials said.
