CELEBRATION: The second annual celebration of Flores...

CELEBRATION: The second annual celebration of Flores de Mayo is scheduled during the 5:30 p.m. liturgy today at St. Mary’s Church, 1600 E. Ave. R-4, Palmdale. Flores de Mayo is a popular Filipino tradition of offering flowers as an expression of love and devotion to the Virgin Mary. Children are welcome to participate and are asked to wear white and bring their own flowers. A potluck reception will follow the Mass at about 6:30 p.m. More information can be obtained by calling (805) 947-6720.

MUSLIM PRAYER: Local Muslims will gather at 7 a.m. Monday on the engineering field at Cal State Northridge for the Eid Al-Adha prayer service. This feast of sacrifice is the day when 1.2 billion Muslims worldwide commemorate the near-sacrifice of Abraham’s son. The Islamic Center, Northridge, can be reached at (818) 885-9107.

RENEWAL MISSION: The Rev. David Tobin will conduct a parish renewal mission beginning Monday at St. Mary’s Church, 1600 E. Ave. R-4, Palmdale. The three-day mission will run from 7 to 9 each evening. The closing night, Wednesday, will offer a Penitential Service. Tobin will speak on a variety of topics including the fundamentals of the Catholic faith, the scope and meaning of changes in church life since the Second Vatican Council and problems faced by Catholics in living out their faith in today’s world. Catholics and non-Catholics are invited to attend.

WORKSHOP: “On Course,” a three-day workshop teaching participants how to close the gap between what they want and what they have, will be offered Friday through June 6 at the Glendale Church of Religious Science, 2146 E. Chevy Chase Drive. Topics to be explored include “The Power of Practice,” “The Language of the Heart,” “Living Life as a Game” and “Attainment of Your Goals.” Sessions will be held 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 5 and 2 to 7 p.m. June 6.
