When Will Picus Address Issues?

Share

Joy Picus, my 3rd District City Council person, has not addressed any of the real issues facing the city of Los Angeles in her bid for reelection.

She has not spoken honestly to the people in the district regarding the $150-million (and growing) deficit that she and her fellow City Council members have gotten us into and how she plans to finance it.

Could it be that she has no solution to this problem?

Now that Proposition 1 has been defeated for the second time, how does she plan to finance the additional 2,200 police officers that this city needs without increasing the business tax again or taxing us out of our homes? Is she going to wait until after the election before she tells us?

And why have Picus and her fellow council members decided to select specific laws that the Police Department must enforce and those laws that they can’t enforce? Isn’t this a dangerous practice? Why won’t she discuss her selective law-enforcement practices with her constituents?

Why is her campaign booklet lacking comments about her anti-environment stance? Is she afraid that it’s politically unpopular?

I would like to know why she is so unfriendly to business? During her last four-year term many companies have gone out of business, including those that could not afford to pay the additional 7.5% business tax. In fact, Reseda has become the “for lease” capital of Los Angeles County under her leadership.

I realize that Picus has a job with a retirement plan and a wonderful health benefit package, but what about her constituents that need employment? Where are the funds for retraining people in the 3rd District so that they can receive these wonderful benefits? Did I miss this discussion in her handout, or is she waiting until after the election to tell us that there is no money available for the people?
