A group of German politicians believe hand-held computer games are a health hazard and want their sale to children under 16 banned, the Bild newspaper reported Friday.

The politicians, legislators from Chancellor Helmut Kohl’s Christian Democratic Union, believe a law to protect young people from addiction to the games is overdue.

“These games can become as much of an addiction as alcohol and can be a health hazard,” CDU deputy Michael Luther told Bild.

“A new law to protect children and young people from spiritual, emotional and psychological damage is already long overdue,” deputy Hans Raidel said.
