Edmund Hamalainen of Belarus overcame Germany’s Paul Meier on the second day of competition and went on to set a year’s best total of 8,604 points in decathlon competition in Goetzis, Austria.
Svetla Dimitrova of Bulgaria won the women’s heptathlon with 6,594 points.
