Water is spilling over the rim of Lake Tahoe into the Truckee River for the first time in 32 months in another sign that the West’s drought is in remission.

The lake fell below its natural level of 6,223 feet above sea level Sept. 14, 1990. Two more dry winters dropped it another three feet.

Federal water officials said the lake is expected to rise another nine inches by early or mid-July as it benefits from the runoff of a winter snowfall that was nearly twice normal in much of the Sierra Nevada.
