Compton : City Atty. Fenderson Dies After Winning 3rd Election

Less than six weeks after winning a landslide election, City Atty. Wesley Fenderson, 47, died early Saturday. The cause of death is not known, City Manager Howard Caldwell said.

A native of Compton who graduated from Centennial High School in 1964, and from USC Law School, Fenderson was admitted to the state Bar in 1975 and began working in the city attorney’s office. He was appointed city attorney by the City Council in 1980 and was elected to the post three times.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Double Rock Baptist Church, 1900 W. Alondra Blvd. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park near Whittier, and a reception will be held at Dollarhide Senior Center, 1108 N. Oleander Ave. in Compton.

Fenderson is survived by his wife, Sheila Fenderson, director of the Compton Parks and Recreation Department, four children and five grandchildren, a sister, six brothers and his parents.
