MOORPARK : City Imposes New Fees on Street Vendors

Share

Two weeks after approving a new ordinance regulating street peddlers, the Moorpark City Council on Wednesday hiked the fees that vendors will have to pay to sell their wares within the city limits.

The council voted 4 to 0 to establish two new fees for all companies and individuals hawking ice cream, housewares and other goods on the streets of Moorpark.

In addition to the existing $50 license fee, vendors will now have to pay $35 for the photo identification cards required under the new ordinance and buy a $10 tag for each cart or other vehicle that they use in their businesses, Planning Director Jim Aguilera said.

The new fees take effect July 5.

Nonprofit organizations such as the Girl Scouts that sell cookies, candy and other goods to raise money will be exempt from the fees, he said.

But the 12 or 13 vendors who try to make a profit by selling food and other items around the city must pay the additional charges to continue operating.
