Schools to Be Evaluated on Disabilities Act
Ojai’s Board of Education has voted to pay up to $14,000 to have district schools evaluated to make sure they comply with the federal Americans With Disabilities Act.
Under the agreement, the Ventura-based architectural firm of Rasmussen and Associates will visit the district’s nine schools and develop a plan to modify the sites to comply with the act.
The 1990 civil-rights law guarantees disabled people equal access to public facilities.
The study was suggested by the county Board of Education in an effort to get all school districts in the county to follow the regulations of the act, said Kathy Rumble, a spokeswoman for the county board.
In the coming weeks, other school districts will be considering similar proposals, Rumble said.
