Hearings Set on Proposed Pacific Telesis Spinoff: The California Public Utilities Commission will hold nine days of hearings beginning July 6 on issues connected to the company’s plan to divest its wireless operations into a separate company. Among the issues to be settled is whether Pacific Bell’s customers are due compensation for the funding that was used to develop the cellular service and whether the spinoff could impair the phone company’s ability to provide service at affordable rates.
