World IN BRIEF : ITALY : Probe of Andreotti Link to Death Sought
Italian prosecutors asked the Senate for authority to investigate former Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti in connection with the 1979 slaying of a political scandal sheet editor. The seven-time prime minister is already under investigation for alleged corruption and association with Mafia bosses. Italian news agencies said the judicial request deals exclusively with allegations made by Mafia turncoat Tommaso Buscetta that Andreotti was an instigator in the killing of Mino Pecorelli, who was shot to death in his car March 20, 1979.
