Share

The Temple City Unified School District has appointed Al Clegg, a teacher in the district, as assistant principal at Oak Avenue School.

Clegg, 39, will assume the position July 1. The job pays $50,069 a year. Clegg has taught math at Temple City High School for the past three years and also coached the varsity football team.

Before coming to Temple City, Clegg taught at Monrovia High School, where he also served as head football coach, athletic director and business department chairman. He has been an educator for 16 years.

Clegg replaces Kathy Perini, recently appointed principal at Emperor School. Her new position pays $60,687 a year. The seat was vacated by Jeff Sweeney, who was appointed principal at Oak Avenue, where he will be paid $71,676 a year.

The administrative changes were made “to reduce costs and bring some new ideas and perspective to the program,” Superintendent Clint Taylor said. Clegg will be Oak Avenue’s sole assistant principal, a cutback from the two in office previously.

The 4,760-student district has six schools.
