VENTURA : Drunk-Driving Checks Planned for Grad Night

Share

Ventura police will conduct several drunk-driving checkpoints Thursday, the day seniors graduate from Ventura’s public high schools.

The checkpoints will be held at night at three undisclosed locations, police said. The locations were chosen based on past drunk-driving arrests and alcohol-related accidents.

Sgt. George Morris said Ventura has not had a serious or fatal alcohol-related collision on graduation night, although there have been accidents in other parts of the county.

“Historically there’s been a lot of parties and drinking by students on grad night,” he said. “We want to reinforce the idea of a sober grad night. We don’t want you to end your whole life on grad night.”

Thursday’s checkpoints in Ventura are being paid for with a $800 donation from the Tri-County Traffic School, a nonprofit driver’s education school. During the checkpoints, officers will hand out pamphlets containing information on alcohol-related crashes in the Ventura area.
