EPISCOPAL DIOCESE: The Rev. Lynn Jay, vicar of St. Stephen’s Episcopal mission in Santa Clarita, has been elected to lead the Los Angeles Episcopal Diocese’s delegation to the denomination’s triennial General Convention next year, the first woman given that honor.

The August, 1994, convention in Indianapolis will be the second for Jay, who was chosen as a delegate to the 1991 meeting from the large Los Angeles diocese. She told the Episcopal News that she sought election as a delegate because she sensed a gulf between the national church and local congregations.

“I wondered if I became more familiar with the national church I might be able to help articulate that link,” she said.

While pastoring a congregation of 185 families planning construction of a new church, Jay is also serving this year as president of the Interfaith Council of Santa Clarita Valley.

PRESBYTERIANS: An all-female delegation that represented the nearly three dozen Presbyterian churches in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys at the June 2 to 9 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) will report on that convention at a 3 p.m. meeting Tuesday at Kirk o’ the Valley Presbyterian Church, Reseda. About 20 people from the Presbytery of San Fernando were in Orlando, Fla., for the General Assembly, but only two were voting commissioners, or delegates: the Rev. Judith Hirsch-Fikejs, pastor of Acton Community Church, and Myra Moore, a lay member of First Presbyterian Church of Newhall. The non-voting youth commissioner was Monica Gonzalez of Canoga Park Presbyterian Church.

CARMAN: Christian singer Carman, named top contemporary Christian artist of 1990 by Billboard magazine, will perform music from his three albums at 5 and 7 p.m. concerts today at Six Flags Magic Mountain, Valencia. The concerts cost an additional $3 above the park admission. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

RECORDING ARTIST: Grammy Award-winner Steve Archer will sing songs from his four solo albums in a 6 p.m. concert Sunday at Shepherd of the Hills Church, 19700 Rinaldi St., Porter Ranch. As a member of the Archers, he performed at the Carter White House and won a Grammy in 1980 for the group’s performance of “The Lord’s Prayer.” Since going solo in 1982, he has released four albums, the last called “Off the Page.”

CONCERT: Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” will be performed by Melodia Sinica, a choir composed of singers of Chinese heritage, 8 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Canoga Park, 20553 Sherman Way.
