Hey folks, make sure your kids are not anywhere around. This is just between us.

There is a really great educational opportunity opening up Tuesday in Pasadena. It is the new beach exhibit at Kidspace Museum.

But we can’t let the kids know they will be learning stuff. You see, the exhibit will be a blast.

“They’ll be able to test things and dig for shells in the sand and they’ll be able to see real fish,” said Marni Gittleman, the museum’s director of education for exhibits and school programs.

She said the museum is bringing in three tons of sand for the kids. There is a large cutout of a blue whale that the kids can crawl through. They can play with an interactive mural and a wave machine, and they will be learning.

“That’s the beauty of it,” Gittleman said. “The process of play is learning.”

But we can’t tell the kids that.

The real kicker is that the museum wants us to play, too. No more of this watching your little darling have the time of his or her life in the ball crawl, and we can’t go in.

“We are going to encourage parent participation,” Gittleman said. “We feel that it’s some of the most important learning.”

In other words, adults get to wiggle their toes in the sand, too.

“Our visitors will come away learning what the beach gives to us and what we can give to it,” Gittleman said.

Kidspace Museum hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 12:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The museum is at 390 S. El Molino Ave., Pasadena. Admission is $5.
