GM’s Opel Loses Suit Against Lopez: A court has rejected General Motors’ claim that its former purchasing chief stole company secrets when he jumped to Volkswagen. The Frankfurt District Court released an explanation for its May ruling, saying that the personal knowledge Jose Ignacio Lopez de Arriortua took to Volkswagen did not represent such secrets. Adam Opel, the German subsidiary of General Motors Corp., had sought to prevent Lopez and the others from joining Volkswagen. Lopez resigned as GM purchasing chief in March to take the same position at Volkswagen. He has also been accused by GM of stealing secret company documents, but no ruling has been made on that charge.
