Philip Louis Gabriel, 85, Southern California industrialist and author. Gabriel, born in Ft. Fairfield, Me., was educated at Washington State University and Southwestern Law School. He served as president of the Crystal Ice Manufacturing Co. from 1935 to 1964, president of Gabriel Bros. Department Stores from 1947 to 1956, and president of Smithy Muffler Manufacturing Co. from 1948 to 1956. He was also a director and vice president of Del Mar Turf Club and president of the Tri-State Ice and Cold Storage Assn. He went on to write more than half a dozen books, beginning with “I Found America” in 1950. His “Citizen From Lebanon” in 1957 earned him the republic of Lebanon’s medal of honor.
