BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Hansen Happy With His Role

Share

Until Tuesday, Dave Hansen was the only position player on the Dodgers’ roster who hadn’t started a game. Hansen, who was once believed to be the club’s third baseman of the future, lost out when the club said he didn’t do the job last season, and Tim Wallach was signed.

But Hansen, who has been successful as a pinch-hitter, has repeatedly said he is happy in his role off the bench.

“I have to be patient here,” said Hansen, who is batting .273 with four runs batted in in 22 at bats. “This has been a dream of mine to play here ever since I was a kid growing up in Long Beach. There’s no way I want to play anywhere else.”

The Dodgers’ five-error game Tuesday night was a season high. The club’s last five-error game was Sept. 20, 1992. Their error-high for last season was seven. . . . Todd Worrell, on the 15-day disabled list with arm soreness, threw long tosses and plans to throw on the side soon. Worrell has been studying game films, and when he feels ready will be assigned rehabilitation in the Dodger farm system. . . . Fred Claire, Dodger executive vice president, said that negotiations are in progress with the club’s No. 1 draft choice, Darren Dreifort, but the sides are distant.
