* Vincent Bordelon; Chamber Lobbyist

Vincent A. Bordelon, former director of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce’s government relations department and formerly the chamber’s chief lobbyist, has died at his Woodland Hills home. He was 76.

A resident of Woodland Hills for 24 years, Bordelon died Wednesday of cancer, said his wife, Norma.

Born and raised in Houston, Bordelon came to California in 1938. He held a variety of positions in the transportation industry and served three years of active duty as a captain during World War II before joining the Carmichael Traffic Corp. in the late 1940s.

In 1958, Bordelon joined the L.A. Chamber of Commerce’s transportation department, where he served as manager.

During the late 1960s, Bordelon represented the chamber in Washington and Sacramento, appearing before the Interstate Commerce Commission, the Civil Aeronautics Board, the Federal Maritime Board and the California Public Utilities Commission. Following that appointment, he was director of the chamber’s government relations department.

After his retirement in 1982, Bordelon was co-chairman of the Valley School Project, an unsuccessful 1983 campaign to remove San Fernando Valley schools from the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Among his many affiliations, Bordelon was a member of the National Industrial Traffic League, the Associated Traffic Clubs of America, the Transportation Assn. of America and the California Assn. of Freight Traffic Consultants.

In addition to his wife, Bordelon is survived by two daughters, Peggy Heath of Long Beach and Cindy Reddy of Salem, Ore.; two sons, Reese Bordelon of Canyon Country and Larry Bordelon of Rancho Cucamonga; a brother, Claude Bordelon of Houston; two sisters, Grace Spraggins and Cecile Bordelon, both of Houston; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills. Forest Lawn Mortuary is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the San Fernando Valley hospices of the Visiting Nurse Assn. of Los Angeles.
