BREA : 2 Paintings Added to Bus-Shelter Displays
Two paintings have been added to the city’s growing collection of original art displayed in bus shelters around the city.
Ernest Negrete’s Van Gogh-style rendition of the city’s old City Hall is now on view at the bus shelter on Randolph Avenue south of Birch Street.
The painting contains text about Van Gogh and some historical notes about Brea’s old City Hall, according to public arts specialist Christy Wada.
A second painting titled “Busy” by Melissa Money of West Covina is on display at a bus shelter on Birch Street just west of State College Boulevard. The painting depicts an old-time postcard with thousands of ladybugs.
Wada said the paintings, wedged between plexiglass panels and mounted on the bus-shelter walls, will be on display for about six months. When they come down, new works by different artists will be installed, she said.
The art shelter program was started in 1991. The aim of the program is to bring art to the streets and allow bus riders, motorists and pedestrians to enjoy it, she said.
