Police on Monday were investigating the strangling of a woman whose body was found by her husband when he returned from a weekend trip.

Police said Henry N. Bui, 36, returned home from a business trip Sunday about 6 p.m. and discovered his wife, Cathy, 28, dead in their apartment on Arizona Street.

Sgt. Mike Mittelstaedt said neighbors had heard a female voice at 3 a.m. calling, “Who are you, I can’t see,” and a male voice responding, “Don’t you remember me?” The neighbors said they heard scuffling noises but did not report the incident to police.

“We’re trying to locate friends, relatives, anyone who might know about this mystery male voice,” Mittelstaedt said. “We’re open to suggestion.”

The county coroner determined Monday that the cause of death was “manual strangulation,” Mittelstaedt said.

Neighbors in the quiet, residential neighborhood said they were surprised to hear about the killing.

“I moved here because it seemed pretty mellow and I didn’t see a lot of gang types walking around,” said Pia Castaneda, 39, who lives across from Bui’s apartment. “This can happen anywhere.”

Castaneda said the couple had moved into the apartment about two to three months ago and kept to themselves.

“Everybody around here minds their own business,” she said.
