GLENDALE : Suit Filed Against Day-Care Center

An attorney filed suit against the Salvation Army’s day-care center in Glendale on behalf of two children, claiming a center employee sexually molested them over a three-month span last year, according to court records.

The plaintiffs, a 3-year-old girl and her 6-year-old half-brother, seek unspecified dollar damages, including compensation for medical and counseling costs.

“There’s been a lot of emotional, psychological counseling,” said their attorney, Steven L. Miller. “It continues to be this day an extremely emotional experience for all the family members.”

Salvation Army officials declined to comment, pending consultation with attorneys.

The lawsuit, filed June 18 in Glendale Superior Court, also names as defendants a man who allegedly was an employee at the Salvation Army in Glendale, and his parents. They could not be reached for comment.

None of the defendants had been served with the complaint as of Monday.

The suit charges that the alleged employee, who was a juvenile at the time, sexually assaulted and battered the children between May and July, 1992, at the Salvation Army Preschool & After School Care facility, 320 W. Windsor Road.

“Each were hurt . . . sustaining injury to their body and shock and injury to their nervous systems,” the complaint said.

Although the employee’s parents were not involved in the alleged assaults, they were listed as defendants because they should have been responsible for their child’s actions, Miller said. The mother also allegedly worked at the day-care center, the lawyer said.
