NEWBURY PARK : L. A. Man Indicted in Busboy’s Slaying
The Ventura County Grand Jury on Tuesday indicted a 23-year-old Los Angeles man in connection with the bludgeoning death of a Newbury Park busboy last month.
Raul Paul Urquidi, in custody in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday before Superior Court Judge James M. McNally on charges of murder and auto theft.
Urquidi, who was arrested by sheriff’s investigators June 14, is charged with killing Rodolfo Macias, a 25-year-old restaurant worker who was found beaten to death with a heavy, blunt object in his Newbury Park home last month, officials said.
A Chevy Blazer belonging to Macias was found in the parking lot of a Glendale convalescent home one day after his body was found, police said.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael K. Frawley, who will prosecute the case, declined to comment Tuesday on a potential motive for the slaying.
But Macias’ relatives said a wallet and money were missing from the North Verna Avenue home where Macias lived.
The indictment means that Urquidi will bypass a preliminary hearing in Municipal Court and enter his plea in Superior Court.
