Four inmates at a Castaic jail suffered minor injuries Tuesday afternoon in a brawl involving about 175 prisoners that was broken up by deputies hurling grenades that discharge rubber pellets, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The fight pitted Latinos against African-American inmates in the south facility of the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho, Deputy Diane Hecht said.

One inmate was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Newhall with head injuries. Three others were treated in the jail ward at County-USC Hospital for minor cuts and bruises.
