McDonnell Douglas Explains Second-Quarter Net: The aircraft maker said its statement for the second quarter, due later this month, will show unusual gains of about $57 million after taxes, or $1.46 a share. Net income for the quarter will include $43 million, or $1.11 a share, due to reversal of part of a $1.5-billion charge taken for retiree benefits in the first quarter of 1992. The reversal resulted from the Southern California Professional Engineering Assn. agreeing to self-paid medical coverage for future retirees. The company said net income for the second quarter will also include about $14 million, or 35 cents a share, from resolution of an income tax dispute.
