Undemocratic Senate

Share

* Too bad Ross Baker (“The Thorn in Clinton’s Side Is Institutional,” Commentary, June 18) did not trace the Senate back to the English House of Lords and help us understand how the American people got saddled with this archaic legislative body. It took over 100 years for us to get to vote directly for our U.S. senators. I hope it doesn’t take another 100 years to democratize this obstructive elite body with its peculiar rules, filibusters and unlimited amendments, to begin with. Two senators from each state, whether the state has 30 million or 650,000 people, is totally undemocratic and unrepresentative!
