Eagle Rock : Disposing of Tattered Flags
If the condition of your American flag made you ashamed to hang it outside July 4, the Cub Scouts of Pack 188 in Eagle Rock have a solution.
The Scouts are planning to have a traditional flag-burning ceremony, considered the proper way to dispose of tattered flags, Aug. 14.
The Scouts’ flag-burning ceremony complies with the U.S. flag code adopted by Congress. The Cub Scouts and their leaders will destroy the flags in a “dignified way,” said Marci Lawson, spokesperson for Pack 188.
Such efforts fill a need to retire worn-out flags properly, rather than stashing them in closets or displaying them in tattered condition, she said.
Information: Lawson at (213) 258-4016.
