Takashi Kiuchi, chairman and chief executive of Mitsubishi Electronics America, was chosen Thursday to become chairman of the firm’s parent company, Mitsubishi Electric America.

Kiuchi succeeds Patsuya Sugiera, who will return to Tokyo to take on other duties, Mitsubishi spokeswoman Beth Brandegee said. It was not immediately clear what position Sugiera will assume in Japan, she said.

“This is part of the normal rotation” for executives, Brandegee said.

Kiuchi will also keep his positions with the subsidiary. Both the parent and subsidiary are based in Cypress, Brandegee said.

Mitsubishi Electric America--with 4,000 employees in the United States, including 500 in Orange County--is the holding company for nine subsidiaries. Mitsubishi Electronics America, the largest, markets a wide assortment of consumer and commercial electronics products.

Kiuchi brings to the new position knowledge of the U.S. marketplace derived from many speaking tours across the nation, Brandegee said.

Brandegee also said that, as Kiuchi attempts to boost Mitsubishi Electric’s annual revenue to $5 billion from $2.5 billion, he will focus on giving U.S. executives more corporate power.

He recently selected U.S.-born Jack Osborn as president of Mitsubishi Electronics’ Consumer Electronics Group. That division manufactures wide-screen televisions and Diamond Vision stadium display screens.
