PARKING PLACES: Two-thirds of Ventura County households have two or more cars--a fact not overlooked by home builders. “Go through some new developments and you’ll see a lot more three-car garages,” said Carmen Bell at Lamb Realty in Thousand Oaks. “The one-car garage is obsolete.” Among home buyers, men care more than women about garage size, she said. . . . The county’s biggest garage? Probably a six-vehicle car barn in the North Ranch section of Thousand Oaks.

STREET BACKUP: Why aren’t some streets in the Thomas Guide? Street Smart knows (B1). . . . The 1994 Thomas Guide for Ventura County, due out in November, will be the first update in two years. The company usually revises the map book every year, but skipped the 1993 revision while it changed to a computer data base. The 1992 book had 1,678 changes, said researcher Al Gastelum at the company’s Irvine headquarters. Next year’s, he said, will have “many, many more than that.”

PAPER CHASE: It’s not hard to find former Rep. Robert J. Lagomarsino’s papers at Cal State Northridge’s Ventura campus. Look for the room with the congressional seal on the door. But locating a particular document in the nearly 100 boxes is about as easy as balancing the federal budget. “Most of it has not been gone through,” said campus Director Joyce Kennedy. . . . In any case, nobody has asked to see the papers. But landing them was a morale booster in the campus’s struggle to become a full-fledged university, Kennedy said.

FILM FEST: Of course, the county’s chief repository of politicians’ treasures is the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, and they’ve got more than just papers. This month, the library is showing eight Ronald Reagan movies (B1). . . . Featured are Reagan’s roles as a submarine commander (“Hellcats of the Navy”), a professor (“Bedtime for Bonzo”) and a playboy (“King’s Row” and “Dark Victory”). Also showing: “Santa Fe Trail,” where he played Gen. George Custer.
