Golf Project

In response to “Tujunga Golf Project Finds Tycoon Deep in the Rough,” July 5:

The past few winters we have seen a Ventura trailer park built in a riverbed washed out to sea, and motorists stranded in the flooded Sepulveda Basin plucked from their cars via helicopter. And now some greedy developer wants to build a golf course in the middle of the Tujunga Wash! Simply amazing.

Forget the financial questions raised in your article; this project should be canceled immediately due to the flood threat. Tujunga Wash exists to carry vast amounts of runoff out of the mountains. Why go to the trouble of building Hansen Dam if the wash were not a flood threat?

No one can predict when the high water will come. Unfortunately you can predict with utter certainty that if the golf course is built and subsequently flooded, the owners will ask us, the taxpayers, to foot the bill for their stupidity in the form of low-interest disaster relief loans.
