Glendale : Library Buys Korean Books

Share

Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the California State Library, the Grandview Branch of the Glendale Public Library is adding about 800 books to its collection for the Korean community.

The grant has also funded a two-year subscription to the magazine Yosong Chungang, and about 12 audiotapes and six videocassettes.

The new collection, which is mostly in Korean with some books in English, is being added to the 20 Korean books the library owns. Library supervisor Mary Alice Toomey said about half of the new collection has arrived.

Toomey said that most of the books were ordered through the Jeong-Eum-Sa Korean Book Center in Los Angeles, with part-time Grandview librarian Choonhee Rhim, who speaks Korean, making many of the choices.
