Westwood : High Marks for Hospital
UCLA Medical Center was rated the best hospital in the nation in the geriatrics field by U.S. News & World Report in its annual rankings released this week.
UCLA was ranked among the top 10 hospitals in the United States in 12 of 16 specialized medical fields covered in the survey. Only two other hospitals in the country had more top-10 rankings, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
The rankings compared 1,488 “tertiary care centers”--major teaching institutions and medical centers where patients go for intensive, specialized treatment.
UCLA’s other top-10 rankings were in the following specialties: AIDS, cancer, gastroenterology, gynecology, neurology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, rheumatology, urology, ophthalmology and psychiatry.
Another major Westside medical institution, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, placed among the top 40 hospitals in the country in six specialties. Cedars-Sinai’s highest individual ranking was 11th in the field of cardiology.
Childrens Hospital Los Angeles was ranked fourth in the nation in pediatrics.
