Two or three men broke into an apartment Thursday, bound the occupants with tape and beat one of them before ransacking their home and fleeing with an undetermined amount of jewelry, police said.

Shortly after the robbery, which occurred about 12:15 p.m. in the 6900 block of Homer Street, Lan Quy Ta, 36, freed herself and ran down the street screaming. Neighbors called police, who found her nearby, Officer Robin Kapp said.

According to police, Ta’s 4-year-old daughter, Tan Lona Ta, answered a knock at the door. The men, reportedly in their 30s, burst in and tied up the residents.

The assailants fled through a rear window a short time later, Kapp said.

The officer said the robbers hit and kicked Lan Ta during the robbery. She was treated at the scene for a swollen eye, police said. Her daughter and another relative, Gia Dai Tan, 38, were not injured.
