* * * Boss, “Born Gangstaz,” DJ West/Columbia. Invading the macho gangsta rap turf, female rapper Boss--with rapping and writing help from Dee Moore--comes off like one of the boyz. Of the few women who have ventured into this genre, she’s the only one to believably adopt a macho stance. The result is vitriolic sexism--feminist style. Her raps are often coldblooded, on-target attacks on piggish men and cops. Furious beats and her emotion-charged rapping create an appropriately cataclysmic feel throughout.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
