TUSTIN : Permit, Inspection Fees Raised by City

Share

The City Council has approved higher fees for construction permits and inspections conducted by the Public Works Department.

In many instances, the new fees will be three to four times higher than before. The new fees, unanimously approved by the council last week, will take effect Aug. 1. It is the first increase in 13 years, officials said, and is part of the ongoing review of current city fees.

“We cannot venture a guess on how much we will earn” with the new fees, said Engineering Services Manager Dana R. Kasdan, adding that the increase is intended to cover costs rather than make money for the city.

Kasdan said the new fees will have little effect on residents, mostly affecting tract developers and contractors for such public construction as curbs, sidewalks, manholes, gutters and sewer lines.

For a basic construction permit, the fee will rise from $10 to $35. The inspection fee for sewer manholes will be $110 and for storm drains $128.

City Manager William A. Huston said that because the services benefit only certain individuals, those individuals must bear the costs.
