Durable Goods Orders Rebound Sharply in June: Analysts were little impressed with the rise, because most of the increase came in the volatile aircraft industry, not in other durable goods such as cars and computers. Orders rose 3.8% from a month earlier, to a seasonally adjusted $131.6 billion, the Commerce Department said. It was the biggest increase in six months and followed a weak stretch that saw orders drop four out of the previous five months. Orders dropped 2.4% in May and 0.1% in April. Although the June rise was much better than the 1% increase expected, two-thirds of it came from aircraft orders, a sector that swings wildly from month to month.
