LAKEWOOD : ‘Spur Posse’ Youth Ordered to Do Community Service

Share

A member of Lakewood’s “Spur Posse” was ordered Wednesday to work 100 hours of community service as part of a six-month informal probation in connection with charges of lewd conduct with a minor.

Kris Belman, now 18, was charged with two counts of lewd conduct for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl when he was 14. Belman is a member of a group that gained national attention for keeping a tally of their sexual conquests. Authorities initially arrested nine teen-agers on sex-related allegations in March, but most were not charged in the case.

During an earlier arraignment in juvenile court, Belman entered a plea of denial, which is the equivalent of not guilty in adult court.

On Wednesday, Superior Court Judge Fumiko Wasserman ordered Belman to seek psychological counseling as part of his probation. But the court’s order does not translate to a guilty sentence. A probation report noted that Belman had no previous record and that the incident happened four years ago, according to a prosecutor.

If at the end of the six months Belman complies with the conditions imposed, the charges will be dismissed, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Mary-Jean Bowman.
