FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Hospital Gets OK for New Office Building

The City Council has cleared the way for construction of an $8.5-million, four-story, medical office building on the campus of Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center.

The council Tuesday also approved a long-range development plan for the 55-acre medical center at the southeast corner of Euclid Street and Warner Avenue.

Nira Roston, who owns two, two-acre parcels on the medical center grounds, voiced opposition to the office building project.

Roston, who said her late physician husband had envisioned the hospital, told the council that she is concerned about increased traffic on a driveway used to access the hospital on Euclid Street, which slices through her property. The hospital owns the driveway.

Roston said she also objects to the density of the project, saying the size of the 75,000-square-foot medical building will harm not only her property but the community as well.

Future developments proposed on the hospital campus include a 456-unit retirement housing project, a 100-bed skilled nursing facility and a 100-bed facility for the frail elderly. None of these projects has received council approval yet.

Construction is planned to start late this fall, with completion targeted for early 1995, Bryant said.
