ECI Computer Acquired by Canadian Firm

ECI Computer Inc., which makes, sells and services data systems for the hotel and convention center industry, said Thursday that it has been acquired by Canadian data equipment maker Geac Computer Corp.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

ECI, privately owned, has annual sales of about $7.8 million. Geac, publicly traded in Canada on the Toronto Stock Exchange, reported a $3.5 million profit and sales of $82.7 million for its latest fiscal year.

Geac designs, sells and rents computer systems and software to companies in the financial services, property management and tourism businesses.

ECI President Carl Jeremias said the company will continue operating under its own name and that no layoffs are anticipated. ECI employs 108 people, including 60 in Santa Ana.
