LOS ANGELES : Actor Wesley Snipes Faces 2 Weapons Charges
Actor Wesley Snipes will be charged with carrying a concealed and loaded gun, both misdemeanors, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney’s office announced Thursday.
Arraignment was scheduled for Aug. 24 at the Hollywood courthouse, spokesman Ted Goldstein said. Snipes, 31, was cited for carrying a semiautomatic pistol under his jacket by police who came to his aid after a minor motorcycle accident in Hollywood early Tuesday.
The weapon, a stainless steel handgun, was loaded with six rounds of hollow-point bullets, Goldstein said.
Each count carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Snipes, who portrays a Los Angeles policeman in the film “Rising Sun,” was released on his own recognizance. “The police were just doing their job. They were real cool,” the actor said in a statement Wednesday.
Snipes is a Florida resident but had registered his gun with the state of California, his publicist said.
