‘L.A. Stories’ Should Focus on L.A. Only

Re “One Last Story About Leaving L.A.” (July 27): I don’t get it. There are countless kind, exciting, humorous, courageous happenings in our city daily.

So why does The Times give “L.A. Stories” space to someone who has moved away and can’t resist rubbing our noses in his unfunny report of life in Colorado?

Here we are trying to lift L.A. from the doldrums and you print a story from a jerk who leaves L.A., bad-mouths it and probably will come back in a minute once we do the hard work of turning the city around.

What a lesson his kids are learning: Stay in Colorado Springs and when it gets the big-city blues, bail out. Be sure to continue leaving places where there are any problems. Don’t stay with the rest of us who love our cities and are trying to save them.

Over the years, there have been many cities subject to bashing by the press. First it was New York City, then Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Houston, Philadelphia, Washington. Now it’s Los Angeles’ turn. It appears the Los Angeles Times is as good as, if not better than, most other publications at this.
